A family dog reportedly stopped a kidnapping attempt in St. Petersburg, Florida. Dogs really are man’s best friend–unless you’re trying to cause harm.

It’s amazing what dogs can do for their loved ones. This one definitely stopped a situation that would have been a disaster and could have ended much differently if the family dog didn’t start barking to alert everyone that something was wrong. Thankfully, it was enough to cause the attempted kidnapper to let the kid go and to flee the scene. However, he didn’t make it far and was arrested and is now facing charges of attempted kidnapping and trespassing to an enclosed area of a dwelling, per WESH. The suspect is now being held without bond.

Did A Family Dog Stop A Kidnapping Attempt?

The incident reportedly happened just after noon on Saturday, December 28th in St. Petersburg, Florida. According to WESH, 36-year-old Ron Lee Klein Jr. entered a family’s fenced-in backyard through a gate at the back of their home and grabbed a 2-year-old child by the arm but was confronted by the family dog when he tried to pick the kid up. The dog started barking and alerted someone near the child who began running after Klein and screaming at him, per WESH.

Klein ended up letting go of the toddler and fled the area. However, St. Petersburg police were in the area and were able to locate and arrest Klein. According to WTSP, police say Klein was captured on video surveillance cameras entering the property through the gate and running away. He did later admit to entering the backyard through the gate. Thankfully, the family dog was able to prevent whatever Klein might have had planned. The dog definitely deserves all of the treats for its heroic efforts and sending the man running. It goes to show the benefits of having a guard dog and what they can end up doing for you. You get a dog to have a companion and a friend but you probably never imagine your family dog might end up saving your child’s life or preventing a kidnapping attempt. There is no word on what breed the dog is. I don’t think my dog would have been this loud or taken action like this dog did. He would have probably been sleeping right through it all.
