Florida Man Builds ‘Skinny House’ Out Of Spite
You may have heard of a tiny house but what about a skinny house? A Florida man built one for $600,000 out of spite, but it’s actually pretty cool!
Tiny houses get a lot of attention online and even on TV there have been TV shows all about them. It can be a unique way of living like a minimalist. People show that it’s all you really need. However, that lifestyle is certainly not for everyone. Some people like space whether that be in length, height, or width. One man took it to the extreme by building a skinny house in Jacksonville, Florida. It’s only 10 feet wide but is still 1,547 square feet, per Business Insider! You might have heard of shotgun style houses in New Orleans, and this is something similar only much much longer.
Did A Florida Man Build A Skinny House Out Of Spite?
Business Insider says Mike Cavanagh bout the 10-foot-wide skinny house in Jacksonville Beach, Florida this year. It sounds like Cavanagh was looking to downsize and was looking at various properties and homes when he was shown something really unique. He knew the moment he walked in that it was for him and he told his real estate agent, “I’ll take it,” per Business Insider.
Business Insider says the home is 10-feet-wide but still 1,547 square feet and features 2 bedrooms and 2.5 baths. It has incredible curb appeal and is very modern. He ended up putting an offer in that day and bough the home for around $600,000. He says it works for him as he’s single, if he was married and had young kids this wouldn’t be the home for someone like that but it works. Business Insider said the home’s builder originally wanted to build a 15-foot-wide home but the city rejected the proposal so he ended up having to do 10 feet wide to do it his way out of spite. On the outside, it resembles a double-wide trailer but, like, a really nice double wide. The house really makes use of its space by incorporating built-in nooks and the upstairs bedroom has a built-in platform where the mattress sits. It also allows a lot of light in.
He gets a lot of attention by people walking by and from the neighbors but you can expect that with a one-of-a-kind home like this. He expects it to be a solid investment and I would have to agree! You can see more about this skinny house from Business Insider here.
