Elton John recently gave an update on his vision loss and opened up about what he has been struggling with for the last few months. After dealing with a severe infection he reveals he has lost vision in his right eye.

Elton John Discusses Right Eye Vision Loss

In a recent appearance on Good Morning America, he shared that the inability to see perfectly has limited his ability to work and is part of the reason why he has not released any new music. “I unfortunately lost my eyesight in my right eye in July because I had an infection in the south of France. And it’s been four months now since I haven’t been able to see. And my left eye’s not the greatest,” said John on the show.

Although the loss has been for a few months, he is still hopeful that all will be well. “So, there’s hope and encouragement that it will be OK. But I’m kind of stuck in the moment because I can do something like this, but going into the studio and recording, I don’t know. Because I can’t see a lyric [sheet]," said John.

Although Elton John retired from touring back in 2023, he still has plans for new projects. He gave an update about his new album, but due to the vision loss, things may take a bit longer than expected.

He hinted at the music being somewhat done, but he just needed to get into recording them to make the album. Facing the loss of being able to read his own lyrics, this may take some time but he is hopeful that new music will come from him in the future.

“I can’t see anything, I can’t read anything, I can’t watch anything,” he said. “It’s been awhile since I’ve done anything and I just have to get off my backside.”

Fans reacted on social media to the news and showed their concerns. "Poor thing! Sending him all the love & healing vibes!!" said one user.
