The first Football Sunday of the year didn't come and go without its fair share of excitement. It was thrilling from start to finish, and there's still Monday Night Football between the New York Jets and the San Francisco 49ers. Some teams impressed like everyone expected them to. While others laid an egg in Week 1 and are giving fans reasons to be concerned. Either way, football is back, baby.
Which NFL Teams Impressed In Week 1?
The 2024-2025 NFL season started on Thursday night with a showdown between the Baltimore Ravens and the back-to-back Super Bowl champions, the Kansas City Chiefs. It was a rematch of last year's closely contested AFC Championship Game. Just like last year, the Kansas City Chiefs came out on top--but it wasn't easy for them. The Ravens made it a game, and it came down to the final plays. While the Ravens still looked good and should have a solid season ahead of them, the Chiefs are going to be dangerous again this year. Expect more of the same from them and lots of celebrity sightings in the suites.
Additionally, the New Orleans Saints had a great game against the Carolina Panthers. Sure, Carolina isn't good--but the Saints looked impressive, regardless. Their offense was on fire and they clearly still have one of the best defenses in the league. They're definitely going to be favorites to go on to with the NFC South this year. Tampa Bay might have something to say about that, as they picked up a win on Sunday. However, New Orleans looked dominant.
The Dallas Cowboys also looked great on both sides of the ball on Sunday afternoon. They went up against the Cleveland Browns' defense which was the best in the league last year. This year? They're not looking the same. It seemed like Dallas was in control while Cleveland looked lost.
Finally, the Detroit Lions entered the season with high expectations and they showed flashes of why they can be potentially dangerous and are Super Bowl contenders. For the past few years, their defense has been their biggest problem, and it appears that they addressed that in the offseason. They have one of the most dynamic offenses in the league, and if they can get a defense that's on par--look out.
Which NFL Teams Were Let Downs In Week 1?
The biggest letdown of Week 1 in the NFL season has to be the Cincinnati Bengals losing to the New England Patriots. All offseason, the discussion around the Patriots was how it's like the island of misfit toys. The offensive line had question marks, the rookie quarterback wasn't going to start, and new Coach OJ Mayo (filling the shoes of Bill Belichick) had some odd press conferences that didn't make me confident about this team's expectations. However, they beat the Bengals, who at one point were 9 point favorites heading into the game. It was a massive upset, and New England looked good in the trenches, but it was the turnovers that won the game. Cincinnati was sloppy and constantly turning the ball over at crucial points. Then, on 4th and short they made head-scratching play calls and didn't rely on their talented stars. There are reasons to be concerned in South Ohio after that performance yesterday.
Additionally, despite some major changes in the offseason, the Atlanta Falcons still look terrible. How can a team have that much talent on both sides of the ball and still do nothing out there? I don't understand it! It's not going to be a great season for the Falcons.
The Jacksonville Jaguars ended up losing to the Miami Dolphins when they controlled the game the whole time. Again, it was some questionable play calls that led to their demise, and their L. They should have won that game! Finally, the New York Giants let their star running back Saquon Barkley walk in free agency (to an in-division rival) and they are clearly regretting it already. They looked awful out there despite their incredibly awesome throwback uniforms. It was an ugly performance from the G-Men this week and that's a tough division to be in. Now, the question is how will the other team in New York fair on Monday Night Football? Honestly, they can't look much worse than the Giants.
What Are Your Expectations For The NFL Season?
It's still early in the season, but we got a good look at a lot of teams with their new-look squads. As you read, some teams impressed while others were let-downs. Not every loss is a reason for concern, but some of those losses were definitely concerning!
After what we saw in Week 1, it's going to be difficult not seeing the Kansas City Chiefs making it back to the Super Bowl. I'm expecting them to come out of the AFC again, until we see reasons to believe otherwise. In the NFC, I think it's going to come down between Dallas and Detroit. It's time to break that Sports Illustrated curse. Give me Detroit to come out of the NFC. I think the division is weaker in the NFC North compared to NFC East, especially with Jordan Love's injury and Minnesota dealing with injuries.
Who are you thinking will be left standing at the end of the year?
5 Of The Best Football Movies Of All-Time
What are the best football movies of all-time? We came up with a list of 5 of our favorites, did yours make the list?
There are no shortage of excellent movies that are about football. There are classics, new movies, comedies, and dramas all about football. However, what are the best football movies of all-time?
What Are The Best Football Movies Of All-Time?
Football season is quickly coming up! I'm already picturing Sundays in front of the TV with my gameday snacks and no plans for the entire day but watching some games and placing some bets. We're only a few months away from the start of the 2024-2025 NFL season!
To celebrate, we came up with a list of 5 of the best football movies of all-time. Of course, only picking 5 meant that some great football movies were being left on the cutting room floor. They couldn't all end up making the list. Recently, we also made lists of the Best Baseball Movies for the MLB season and the Best Basketball Movies during the NBA season. Make sure to come back to check out these lists after you see the list of the best football movies of all-time.
Do you have a football movie in mind? Hopefully it ended up making the list! For this list, I decided to try to make it the best of the best when it comes to football movies. I didn't want this to be my personal list of favorite football movies, so I tried to think of what most people would consider to be the best. Did some of my personal favorites slip through the cracks? Probably. However, I did my best to remain totally unbiased.
Unfortunately, some great movies didn't make the cut. I didn't include Friday Night Lights because I thought the show was better than the movie. Little Giants is one of my personal favorites but I didn't think it was good enough to earn a spot on the list. Radio is another great movie that you won't find on the list. Jerry Maguire is a great movie but football wasn't a big enough part of the movie for it to be considered a "football movie," in my opinion. Are they great movies! Absolutely! They just didn't make this list.

5 Of The Best Football Movies Of All-Time
Remember The Titans
Remember The Titans is my favorite football movie and I think it's arguably the best of all-time. It has everything you'd want in a football game! There's leadership, quality football, there's comedy, the story is great, you care about the characters--it's excellent from start to finish. There are so many great quotes in the movie. It's also very relatable to anyone who played football and grew up playing the game while addressing racial issues at the time.
Any Given Sunday
Is Any Given Sunday my favorite football movie? No, it definitely is not. Is it in my personal Top 10? Honestly, I doubt it. However, you can't argue it's one of the best football movies of all-time. You got great performances from Al Pacino, Dennis Quaid, Jamie Foxx, and Cameron Diaz. They were all perfect in their roles and the movie was well cast. You simply can't discuss football movies without bringing up Any Given Sunday. It deserves a spot on the list.
The Waterboy
I know I said I wasn't going to let any personal biases affect the list, but this might be the one exception. We had to have The Waterboy on the list! It's probably the football movie I've seen the most times. It has to be the funniest movie about football, right? Sure, The Longest Yard is good, but it doesn't hold a candle to The Waterboy. Do you agree?
The Replacements
The Replacements had a great cast with Keanu Reeves, Gene Hackman, Brooke Langton, and Jon Favreau. The movie came out in 2000 and has been considered one of the best football movies ever sense. Again, it's not my personal favorite but I can't deny it a spot on the list because I don't like it. However, if another movie were to be added I will admit it would probably take The Replacements place. It would be the replacement...pun not intended but pretty cool how that worked out!
Rudy
You were waiting for this one weren't you? Thinking it might not make the list? Of course Rudy is going to make the list of the best football movies of all-time. I'd bet most would consider it to be the greatest football movie of all-time. It's often synonymous with football movies. It's a timeless classic that will live on for many more generations.
