Solo things to do in Boston on your birthday? I'm sure a lot of you are scratching your head on that one. Like why would anyone want to celebrate alone on their birthday. Well there are a lot of reasons. I'll get into that, as well as some of the fantastic and fun solo things you can do in Boston on your birthday.
Why Solo Things To Do In Boston On Your Birthday?
So I came across a question on Reddit where someone was asking about things they could do alone on their birthday. They had just moved to the city and didn't have family and friends to celebrate with. They didn't seem sad about it, and were just looking to find some fun things to do, as well as restaurants to try.
I know for a lot of people celebrating alone on your birthday may seem like the worst thing ever, but as someone who prefers it, I can tell you it can be one of the most satisfying days of the year. I usually use the day to focus on myself, thing about what the past year(s) have meant to me, write out my hopes and dreams for my new year, and do all the things that I, not someone else, want and love to do. Here are a few solo things to do in Boston to get you started.
Castle Island In South Boston
Castle Island is one of my favorite places in the city. It's an incredible area to explore and of the best solo things to do in Boston. There's a loop that you can walk around and occasionally stop to take in the beautiful water views. You can sit on the rocks, strike up a conversation with someone, and you definitely need to make a stop at Sullivan's for some ice cream, chowder, fried clams, or whatever else you feel like celebrating with.
One Of The Many Fabulous Museums In The City
We are so lucky to have a variety of fascinating museums. From the Museum of Fine Arts, to the Isabella Garnder Museum, to the Institute of Contemporary Art, the Museum of African American History, just to name a few. And you can even get free admission when you go to a Boston Public Library branch and get a card.
Indulge In The Art Of Wandering
On of my favorite things to do when I first came to Boston many years ago, was wander the city. There was nothing better than getting lost while going into different shops and eateries to get a taste of the city. And if you're too worried about not being able to get home, you could always stick one area to wander in, like the very popular Seaport area.
Try An Art Class
Get in touch with your creative side. Sign up for a paint bar, pottery painting, jewelry making, or any of the other artsy/crafty classes. This is truly one of my favorite solo things to do in Boston.
Eat All Your Favorite Foods
What's your favorite food? Whatever it is, I guarantee Boston has it. Decide what you want to eat and "Yelp that sh*t." It's not always 100% accurate, but you can get some ideas of what's good and close to you.
Be A Tourist
I love this idea. There are lots of touristy things to do here, and are some of the best solo things to do in Boston. Duck Boat tours, trolley rides, tour Fenway Park, do a Whale Watch. Google Touristy things to do in Boston, and you'll be all set.
Hope you enjoyed this list of solo things to do in Boston on your birthday. Boston has a lot to offer, including celebrating your day.
Boston Magazine's Best of Boston issue is finally here. This issue has been the guide of Bostonian's for years and highlights the best of the best area businesses. From restaurants, to spas, to hotels, to nightclubs, there is no category left out. Before we get to some of our favorites and our highlights, let's take a look at how staffers at the magazine determine their choices.
50 Years of "Boston's Best"
The first time Boston Magazine selected "The Best and The Worst of Boston" was in 1974. This was 50 years ago. We are now entering into the magazine's 50th year of picking the best of what the city and beyond has to offer. When trying to find how the choices are made, we couldn't exactly find their criteria. It seems as if the choices are simply the opinions of the staff at Boston Magazine. In the description, it reads "Here's the best of Boston in our eyes today."
They actually break it down into Boston AND "Beyond the City" categories. They even break it down into sub categories like "Weddings," "Home," "Kids," "Service," "Arts and City Life" and more. We wanted to highlight our favorite choices. If you want to read the entire issue, CLICK HERE. Let the debate begin!
Best Burger, Seamark inside the Encore Hotel and Casino
I can attest to this choice. The Schlowburger is named after Seamark's chef Michael Schlow. It's perfectly made to order with zesty horseradish sauce and onion strings.
Best Dinner & a Show Grace by Nia in the Seaport
Grace by Nia is a beautiful jazz club in the Seaport. The website describes it as "Flaunting whimsically chic decor, a soul-infused menu, an intimate stage for live music and creative entertainment, and an enchanting cocktail lounge." Reservations are encouraged.
Best Hotel for a Couples Escape: Encore Boston Harbor
This one is a choice near and dear to my heart. Encore is a five star luxury hotel with five star spa services and everything you need for a romantic night out. Check out the nightclub Memoire or the lounge inside Mystique. And enjoy a delicious meal at Rare Steakhouse.
Best Viral Moment "Cop Slide"
Who can forget the viral video of the Boston police officer going down the slide at City Hall Plaza. The video got millions of views on TikTok. The cop slide became a tourist destination that everyone wanted to slide down and try for themselves.
Best Power Lunch Abe & Louie's
Abe & Louie's is my personal favorite steak house in the city. It is considered the place where celebrities are wined and dined. Not to mention they have one of the best seafood towers in the city.
Best Place to Spot an Out of Town Celeb Strega by Nick Varano
Everyone knows Strega is the place to be in the city. Located in the historic North End of Boston, Nick Varano has been entertaining celebrities for years. Not to mention, the Boston Celtics took the trophy there right after they won the NBA Championship. And the food is pretty delicious too!
