Unfortunately, the most unhealthy snacks are typically the best. Very rarely does a vegetable end up someone’s favorite snack.
That’s not to say it shouldn’t be! It turns out some of our most beloved snack choices are the absolute worst for us. However, what are the worst of the worst for you? Some people want to know all the nutritional facts of a snack before they eat it. It makes sense, you want to know what you’re consuming. However, sometimes it’s probably best not to know. At least if you want to continue eating the snacks you enjoy.
EatThis.com made a list of the 40 Unhealthiest Snacks on the Planet. Unfortunately, the list is filled with some of our favorite go-to snacks. Some of these defined my childhood! Now, it’s all starting to make sense.
Snacks are intended to give us an extra boost between meals. However, it’s important to choose the right snack. According to EatThis.com, nutritious snacks that are rich in protein, fiber, vitamins, and antioxidants can help satisfy cravings and can prevent overeating. However, if you choose an unhealthy snack that’s filled with sugar, sodium, and saturated fats it might actually leave you more hungry than you were before!
What Are The Most Unhealthy Snacks?
According to EatThis.com, the most healthy snack available on the market is Little Debbie Zebra Cakes. No! Those are one of my favorites! They were always my choice if I had to grab a sweet dessert treat in the lunch line. They are so good! Unfortunately, they are also incredibly unhealthy. They contain 320 calories, 14 grams of fat (8g of which are saturated fats), 150mg of sugar, 34 grams of sugar, and 47g of carbs–in each cake!
Smucker’s Goober Grape comes in second on EatThis.com’s list of the most unhealthy snacks. There are some much healthier peanut butter and jelly combos available on the market. It’s almost an entire day’s worth of sugar! Yikes.
According to EatThis.com, the Top 5 is rounded out with Ritz Bits Cheese Sandwich crackers, Turtle Chex Mix, and Little Debbie Swiss Rolls. All fantastic snacks that I enjoy very much! These are all common in pantries and it looks like I have some changes to make on my shopping list if I want to improve my health.
