What Happened When An Amazon Delivered A Package To A Burning Home?
Amazon delivered a package to a burning home and had the chance to play hero! However, did they do the right thing?
Well, if minding their own business and pretending like nothing was happening is “the right thing” then yes they did! Here’s more on the trending story where they made like Usher and just let it burn.
Amazon Delivered A Package To A Burning Home
“We didn’t start the fire” isn’t just a popular Billy Joel song. It’s also what Amazon is saying after delivering a package to a burning home and not calling 911. What ever happened to “See something, say something?!” There could have been a dog or person in there (strange that I went to dog first…). This could have led to some very serious problems. Thankfully, things didn’t end up as bad as they could have.
According to WCVB, the fire spread quickly from the garage to the house and burned for hours before a passer-by happened to see it and finally called 911. The incident happened in Medfield, Massachusetts when the family was away for a trip to the Cape. It’s believed the fire started from trash bins next to the garage which might have contained combustible materials discarded by workers renovating the home, per WCVB.
In surveillance video from the home, you can see an Amazon driver arriving roughly 20 minutes after the first signs of smoke. The driver opens the garage, walks through the smoke, and places down the package before leaving without alerting anyone, per WCVB.
WCVB reports that when the family, the McArdles, contacted Amazon about what had happened they were met with resistance. McArdle tells WCVB, “The customer service lady said I spoke to two managers, and they’re not willing to take your call because it wasn’t their fault with the fire. Again, it wasn’t to place blame, it was really more of an educational piece. Like, ‘Hey maybe you can use this information to teach your drivers a little bit better, if you see something, say something, especially a fire.'”
The home was badly damaged, but everyone was okay. See more in a video report below.
