Boston College defeated SMU (Southern Methodist University) in the Wasabi Fenway Bowl by a final score of 23 - 14. The game was played under rainy skies at Fenway Park.

The game got off to slow start with the first quarter ending with just a BC  field goal. By halftime, the Eagles were actually falling behind, with SMU ahead 14 - 10. However, 13 unanswered points in the second half, and some stellar defense, resulted in a thrilling end to the 2023 season for the Eagles.

Plays and Players Of The Game

Though local kicker Liam Conner from Leominster got the Eagles' first points of the day with an early field goal, it was the players from Georgia that took the ball across the goal line for Boston College the rest of the game. Junior running back Kye Robichaux scored in the second quarter. Then, sophomore quarterback Thomas Castellanos took over in the forth quarter. Castellanos had two touchdowns when it mattered most. In total, Castellanos rushed 156 yards vs. SMU. He also threw for 102 yards on 18 attempts.

On the defensive side of the ball senior linebacker Kam Arnold led the team in tackles and had a sack for the Eagles.

Georgia Makes Their Mark

Castellanos is from Waycross, Georgia and attended Ware County High School. He started his college careers at UCF before transferring to Boston College this season. Let's hope Castellanos is done with leveraging the transfer portal. The star QB threw for 15 touchdowns this year and rushed for 11 more.

The backfield for the Eagles this season was run by players from Georgia. Kye Robichaux is from Columbus. He played his high school ball at Glenwood, just 75 miles north of Castellanos. Robichaux played his first two season of college football at Western Kentucky before making his way to Chestnut Hill.

Though the Eagles had a decent season with a 7-6 record, with Castellanos and Robichaux ending the season on a high, Boston College has a bright future with these two stars in place.
