There are some movies that you keep coming back to, knowing that you are guaranteed to chuckle. Elf is that movie for me. No matter how many times I've watched Buddy the Elf cross the street, hopping over the lines in the cross walk, I can't contain a snicker. Without fail, a giggles ensue when Buddy bursts into the coffee shop to congratualate them on their "World's Best Cup of Coffee."
The iconic Christmas movie, starring Will Farrell, is much more than just physical comedy. It's the the humor in his childlike discoveries. It's also really well written and delivers some seriously funny and memorable lines. Let's open up Santa's bag of goodies from the movie. I will happily share the 13 best quotes from the movie, Elf.
The iconic Christmas movie, starring Will Farrell, is much more than just physical comedy, and the humor in his childlike discoveries. It's also really well written and delivers some seriously memorable funny lines. Let's open up Santa's bag of goodies from the movie. I will happily share the 13 best quotes from the movie, Elf. In no particular order, here some some of the best zingers.
1. You Sit On A Throne of Lines
When Buddy meets Santa at Gimbels department store, he realizes it's not the real Santa, and whispers in his ear:
"You sit on a throne of lies...(sniffing) You stink. You smell like beef and cheese. You don't smell like Santa."
2. The Main Food Groups
"We elves try to stick to the four main food groups: candy, candy canes, candy corns and syrup." – Buddy
3. Good News
Buddy, trying to get his "new brother" Michael's attention, rambles on and says “So, good news. I saw a dog today.”
4. I'm a...what?
Another Buddy the Elf classic: "I am a cotton-headed ninny muggins!"
5. This place smells like...
The mailroom scene is one of my favorites. It's lines like this that keep it real...and keep it real funny.
"This place reminds me of Santa's workshop except it smells like mushrooms and everyone looks like they want to hurt me."
6. Day planned
Buddy was so excited at the thought of spending the day with his dad, he made big, big plans. He said:
“I planned out our whole day. First we make snow angels for two hours, and then we’ll go ice skating, and then we’ll eat a whole roll of Tollhouse Cookie Dough as fast as we can, and then, to finish, we’ll snuggle.”
7. Buddy in Love
"I think you're beautiful and I feel warm when I'm around you and my tongue swells up," now that's a romantic line. That's Buddy the Elf expressing his love to Jovie
8. What Leon the Snowman Said
The first character in the movie to tell it like it is! Leon the Snowman delivered this classic line:
"Of course you’re not [an elf]. You’re six-foot-three and had a beard since you were 15.”
9. Words of Wisdom from Papa Elf
How great was Bob Newhart in this smaller role, playing Buddy' the Elf's adoptive elf dad. Advice flowed freely from his elf lips:
“As you can imagine, it’s dangerous having an oven in an oak tree during the dry season.” — Papa Elf
10. Son of a...
"Son of a nutcracker!” This Buddy quote is SO popular it's been made into a sweatshirt
11. Smiling is my favorite
Sometimes, the simplest lines are the ones that stick. Remeber when Buddy told the manager at Gimbles, when asked why he is smiling, "I just like to smile. Smiling's my favorite."
12. Make Work Your Favorite
How to come back from a sweet line, like "smiling is my favorite?" Try this retort:
"Make work your favorite. That's your favorite, ok?
13. Answer the phone
Go ahead. Admit it. You've answered the phone like this, at least once in your life.
"Buddy the Elf, what's your favorite color?
Ok, maybe you left out the elf part. But it is fun!
