Join Team Maggie and Help a Local 7-Year-Old
If you listen to my show on ROCK 92.9, you know I’m all about the kids. So I’m all about letting you know about Team Maggie.
For the last decade, I’ve been volunteering for my city’s SEPAC. “SEPAC” stands for Special Education Parent Advisory Council. As the parent of a child on the autism spectrum, it’s given me the opportunity to learn more about disabilities, how disabilities effect kids and their families, and how that impacts learning. SEPACs help families of kids with disabilities. Because there’s a lot to deal with.
Paul Mendonca has a lot to deal with. He’s a ROCK 92.9 listener and he reached out to me earlier this week. He wrote: “I have a daughter named Maggie who is 7 years old and has 2 very rare types of epilepsy. We are trying to raise money to build an addition to our home to make it ADA approved for her. We are having a hockey tournament in August for her to raise funds for the project. My family and I were wondering if you could possibly spread the word or even cover the event.”
You got it, Paul. Here’s me spreading the word and covering the event.

From the flyer, which you can see below: “On August 12, 2023, CSHL and Maggie Strong Team will be hosting a fund raising tournament. In 2017, Maggie had a stroke due to uncontrollable seizures. She was found to be completely paralyzed on the right side of her body. Maggie is now 7 years old with two rare seizure disorders.” Hence the need for a safe, updated living situation.
Maggie, as Paul and his family share, is strong-willed, determined, and loves watching her dad play hockey. She’d like to watch you play hockey, too! Consider signing up for the tournament, which you can can find out more about on this Facebook page. Or, if you feel moved to do so, you can donate via this gofundme page. Thanks for taking time to read this. #TeamMaggie!
