At a time when everything seems to be getting more expensive, free college in Boston is something worth checking out.

Boston.com had a story earlier this year about how the City of Boston would be expanding its community college program. I've had college on the brain recently for two reasons. First, my oldest just finished up at New England Academy. Congrats, Jacob! Second, I just put together this piece on Rivers Cuomo of Weezer, who spent time at Harvard after the Blue Album.

Whether it's Ivy League or Community College, being a life-long learner is a good thing. And Boston just made being a life-long learner easier by expanding its Tuition-Free Community College program. With a little help from $4 million of federal funding, Boston Mayor Michelle Wu has made the TFCC available for all Boston residents, regardless of age, income, or immigration status.

Here's How to Take Advantage of Free College in Boston

Again, this is for Boston residents. So bear that in mind. Starting this fall, you can enroll for free in an associates degree program for up to three years. Or, you can enroll in a short-term certificate program if that's more your speed. In addition to the free enrollment, a $250-per-semester stipend is included for incidental expenses. There's also $2500-per-student debt relief available for students to reenroll, if needed.

Which community colleges are taking part in the program? Glad you asked. Benjamin Franklin Cummings Institute of Technology, Bunker Hill Community College, Massasoit Community College, MassBay Community College, Roxbury Community College, and Urban College of Boston. Also, Massachusetts College of Art and Design will offer a tuition-free bachelor's degree to eligible students who transfer from a partner community college program.

So get out there and learn this fall! For more details and to enroll, visit the TFCC portal.
