Let’s Watch the Beck Boston Calling Headlining Set from 2015
Beck headlined Boston Calling in the spring of 2015. I found the full set online, and it’s definitely worth revisiting.
As I wrote in my recap of past Boston Calling lineups, I think that May 2015 edition might be my all-time favorite. Beck, Pixies, My Morning Jacket, Ben Harper, Tenacious D, Tame Impala, St. Vincent, Run The Jewels, Sharon Van Etten, and Boston’s own Krill. Just a murderer’s row of great live acts. Krill was literally the first band to take the stage on Saturday and they ended up playing one of the most memorable sets of the weekend. Damn, now I’m going to have to put together a whole other piece of my Boston Calling memories.
Of course, I did just that a couple of weeks ago, with Boston Calling big cheese Mike Snow. And he actually shared a great Tenacious D story from that May 2015 festival. You can listen to our interview here. But we’re not here to talk about Jables and Kage. We’re here to talk about Beck David Hansen, the Friday night headliner for the spring 2015 edition of Boston Calling Music Festival on City Hall Plaza, right in the cobblestoned heart of the city of Boston.
Let’s Watch the Beck Boston Calling Headlining Set from 2015
Beck was touring his Grammy Award-winning album Morning Phase, so you get a fair bit of that in the set, of course. But you also get classics like “Where It’s At,” “Girl,” and “E-Pro.” This was my second time seeing Beck live: I’d first caught him almost a decade earlier at Avalon in Lansdowne Street in August of 1996. That was Odelay-era Beck, and it was magical. But the Boston Calling set had it’s own special magic. Take a look below. Oh, and if you want to see the full setlist rundown, you can get that right here.
