Matt Damon and Casey Affleck were spotted filming scenes for a new movie on Wollaston Beach in Quincy. They've been filming for a few weeks for a movie called "The Instigators" about two thieves who go on the run after a botched robbery attempt. Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are both producing the project being made for Apple Original Films. No word when the movie will be released. This is the same movie that shut down the popular bakery Bova in the North End back in March and some car racing scenes on Storrow Drive in the Back Bay. Directed by Doug Liman, The Instigators is co-produced by Damon and Ben Affleck and also stars Hong Chau, Paul Walter Hauser and Michael Stuhlbarg.
You'll remember too there was an incident back in March of a truck that took down a utility pole in Quincy. That truck was later reported to have been involved in the shooting for The Instigators. The truck was parked in front of Malachy's Saloon on Granite Street which is a bar that was used to film scenes for the movie. Other than the one little mishap, shooting for the movie has gone pretty smoothly.
Of course this isn't the first movie Ben Affleck and Matt Damon have been involved in shooting in the Boston area. It's not even the first movie in general being filmed here, in fact, it seems as if movie productions have picked up significantly in Massachusetts over the years. Apparently there reasons for it including significant tax credits for production companies filming here. There are several movies that have been filmed here, really good movies too. Let's take a look at ten of those movies. Maybe these will give you an idea of something to watch with mom this weekend.

A Top 10 List of Movies Filmed in Massachusetts
The Oscars have come and gone, but we still have the movies on our mind. Let's dig into this Top 10 list of movies filmed in Massachusetts.
The list comes courtesy of BetMassachusetts. They titled it Top 10 Massachusetts Movies: Best Movies Filmed in Massachusetts. Pretty straightforward, right? But you might ask: how did they come up with this particular Top 10? What's the methodology? It's quite simple. They used the IMDB ratings of the films, alongside the Rotten Tomatoes audience score, Rotten Tomatoes critics score, Box Office tally, and Oscar recognition. In other words, the data is sound.
We'll get into the Top 10 below, but I wanted to share some thoughts first. I like this list because the film you'd expect to sit atop the Top 10 actually lands in second place. It's always a treat when you get an unexpected outcome like that. What's more, the Top 10 consists primarily of films released in the last 20 years. That's refreshing. Usually, with a "Top 10 Movies" list you end up with a lot of older fare. Which is fine. But again, the treat of the unexpected outcome makes this list a standout for me.
A Top 10 List of Movies Filmed in Massachusetts
One more note before we dive in: the movie that landed at number three is a must-see. It was released just a few years ago and, when it was, I had friends and family members harping on me to watch it. I put it off and put it off and, when I finally got around to it, I was blown away. It's not often you have a film with a protagonist who you're rooting for but who, at the same time, is so damn unlikable.
Take a look at the list and let us know your faves that were left off on the ROCK 92.9 Facebook and Twitter. Maybe we can make our own Top 10 list together!
