Want to Dine With Your Pooch? Thanks to Boston’s New Policy, You Can

PARIS, FRANCE - MAY 19: A dog licks his lips as Parisians at Cafe de Flore embrace the lifting of Covid-19 restrictions as Cafes and Restaurants across France re-open for the first time in over 6 months on May 19, 2021 in Paris, France. France is taking steps to ease the lockdown measures allowing cafe and restaurant terraces to open to 50% capacity, rolling back the nightly curfew to 9pm and reopening non-essential shops and cultural venues. France is reporting a seven-day average of around 14,000 new Covid-19 cases. (Photo by Kiran Ridley/Getty Images)

Want to dine with your pooch? Now, you can thanks to a new policy and Boston area dog friendly restaurants. Mayor Michelle Wu announced yesterday that a new policy from Boston’s Inspectional Services Department’s Health Division will allow Boston area restaurants to create spaces where humans and their dogs can be together. Apparently there has been a lot of feedback given from Boston residents that they’d like to be able to bring their dogs to certain establishments. According to Mayor Wu:  “Residents and small business owners have been eager for four-legged family members to be able to enjoy our outdoor spaces too, so we’re happy to make this regulatory change allowing dogs on outdoor patios and beer gardens.”

Boston restaurants and beer gardens that have outdoor space can now apply for dog friendly spaces and if approved, can be good to go as early as June 1. To view the application and to apply, CLICK HERE.

There are a few stipulations into this new policy which are understandable. First, the establishment can NOT have any food preparation in the outside area where the dogs are allowed. The dog must be well behaved and the owner is fully responsible for the actions of their dogs. Finally, the dogs MUST be on a leash.

Are you someone who’d love to dine with your dog? If so, there are already several places in and around Boston you can. This weekend specifically is supposed to be very nice, sunny and 70 degrees. This would be the perfect opportunity for you to take your dog out for a nice walk. Just make sure your dog is well behaved and you have them on a leash or you could be subject to a fine. In the meantime, here are some places you can enjoy a nice meal or a beer with your dog this weekend and beyond. Enjoy with your best friend!

13 of the Most Woof-tastic Dog-Friendly Restaurants Around Massachusetts

Our dogs are part of our family! And they always get a little bummed out as they watch us heading out the door for dinner on the town. I’m no Cesar Milan but I’m pretty sure if they could talk they’d say “HEY! TAKE ME!!”

Well lucky for them (and you) there are many restaurants around Massachusetts that are quite dog-friendly. I rummaged through a bunch of reviews and am prepared to present to you 13 of the Best Massachusetts Dog Friendly Restaurants. I tried to spread the love around a little so hopefully you’ll find at least one on this list that’s convenient enough for you and Fido to hit up together. Also, does anyone name their dogs “Fido” anymore? Let’s bring that back. “Spot” too.

And quickly, before we get to the dog-friendly eateries, I’d like to give a shout-out to MY dog’s new favorite Youtuber. Yes, my dog watches Youtube. How 2023-bizarre, huh? Anyway, click this link and show one of the videos to your dog. I’d love to hear if they like it nearly as much as Buoy does.

Thanks to our friends at BringFido. They were a great resource for this list so shout out! Ok… on to the canine culinary countdown!
