Health and wellness has certainly jumped to the forefront of everyone's attention the past three years. According to WalletHub and Life Extension, Massachusetts is a pretty good place to be living for that. Massachusetts ranked one of the healthiest states in the country with a life expectancy age of 79.

Healthcare costs have been on the rise. The same holds true for groceries. It can often be cheaper to eat fast food as opposed to selecting organic produce. So, how does one balance health being a top priority with high affiliated costs? To start, evaluating your environment helps.

To determine the healthiest (and unhealthiest) places in the country, WallHub compared 182 cities, plus at least two of the most populated cities in each state. They analyzed four key dimensions using a metric and grading scale. The areas were: 1) Health Care, 2) Food, 3) Fitness and 4) Green Space.

Boston Finished 11 out of 182

Boston along with Washington DC were the only two cities on the east coast to rank in the top 12. With the Boston Common and Charles River walks, there certainly is no shortage of green space. Yet, it was the healthcare category where Boston produced the best results, claiming #7 out of 182.

Life Expectancy of 79

This aligns with Massachusetts ranking 8th in Life Extension's recent report. Though the two platforms are unrelated their findings both highlight this region as being on top of the pile for a place to live a long healthy lifestyle. "The best states tend to have scenic outdoor areas and active populations," Life Extension states. The report also details how life expectancy has been on the decline the past two years. If you are looking for a place to start, the common focuses would obvious areas. This includes a healthy diet, regular exercise, and good sleep patterns. Perhaps you will now have additional encouragement with Massachusetts ranked one of the healthiest states in the country.
