Did a Sex Toy Company Track the Sexual Activity of Their Users?
A sex toy company was just hit with a massive fine after they got busted tracking users without their knowledge.
Canadian brand We-Vibe had to pay just under $3 million for tracking users that were using one of their smart vibes. A class action lawsuit was filed by users of the We-Vibe 4 Plus. The toy could be controlled by an app on a smart phone from anywhere in the world and had been purchased by more than 300,000 people.
The manufacturer was collecting information such as how often it was used, which intensity, etc. Enough information to give a fairly good idea of the user’s sexual activities.
This data collection made users feel like their privacy had been violated. We-Vibe claims that the data collected was only used for diagnostics but agreed to pay out nearly $3 million.
