The Grossest States In America: Where Does Massachusetts Fall?

Picture a landscape where Massachusetts falls somewhere between Alaska and Virginia. This past August, Zippia released a report that detailed the grossest states in America. Their measurements produced results that ranked each state from the dirtiest (#1) to the cleanest (#50).  New England is a region that experiences the highs and lows of all four seasons. How would that factor in? Well, it meant landing right in the middle of the pile as Massachusetts was ranked the 26th grossest state.

Zippia researched air cleanliness, trash, landfill, and the spread of germs in order to create their list. "To measure the dirtiness of the air, we referred Air Filters Delivered thorough ranking on air quality," they explain. EPA's data produced information on how much of each state is landfill. CDC facts on the spread of illness guided this category, in addition. Finally, Zippia considered some of their own turnoff points to evaluate miscellaneous factors.

As a result, Massachusetts is bordered by Alabama and Mississippi as the group that is neither "gross" nor pristine. Virginia got the badge of grossest, and Alaska took home the crown for the cleanest. As for some of our immediate neighbors - poor Connecticut has some work to do. The constitution state is the seventh grossest. This is in-part due to their high level of illness spreading. Maine finished in the top 10 cleanest, with a 46th grossest finish.

To summarize, Massachusetts was ranked the 26th grossest state (or 25th cleanest). Now spring is officially upon us. Perhaps we can spend more time outside breathing and nurturing the crisp air. Or we can drive up to Maine.
