Want a Little Powerball Jackpot Luck? Check This Out.
With the Powerball jackpot for the Wednesday, November 2 drawing estimated at $1.2 billion, we need all the luck we can get.
According to the Massachusetts State Lottery, this is only the second time in the history of Powerball that the jackpot has reached $1 billion. And only one jackpot has been larger than tonight’s total of $1.2 billion. That was the world record $1.586 billion jackpot from back in January of 2016. If there’s a winner tonight, the $1.2 billion will become the fourth-largest in the history of the U.S. lottery. Staggering numbers, all-around. But how do they stack up here in Massachusetts?
The largest-ever jackpot take here in the Commonwealth was won back in 2017. It was a ticket from a Powerball drawing. It was purchased in Chicopee, MA and the winner scored $758.7 million. Numbers big enough to make your head spin, right? But a reminder: “When playing Powerball and other lottery games, we encourage people to keep the experience enjoyable by playing responsibly and within their means,” said Mark William Bracken, Interim Executive Director of the Massachusetts State Lottery. And speaking of Mark William Bracken, Interim Executive Director of the Massachusetts State Lottery: I got him on the phone.

Of course the first thing I asked Mark about was what tips and tricks he suggested to get a little bit of good luck flowing before buying our Powerball tickets. He didn’t have anything specific, per se, but I did like his message: buy a ticket from the Lottery agent at your local corner store. Whether you win or lose, you’re supporting local businesses, which is always a good idea. And if you believe in Karma? Well, what goes around comes around. You spend a little to help out a local business, and maybe it comes back to you a billionfold. Listen to my conversation with Mark below, and please play responsibly.
