Customs officials were alerted to something suspicious after a bizarre smell starting emanating from sixteen packages that belonged to man heading to Hong Kong.
The bust went down in Nigeria back in June but details are now starting to be released. According to reports the pungent smell coming from the bags, lead the customs officers to open the packages and discovered 7,000 donkey penises as well as over 3,000 pieces of donkey skin.
The illicit trade of donkey parts to China is very common, they are used in some Chinese medicine. The value of these donkey ding dongs would be around $480K and busts of this size happen fairly regularly in Nigeria.
The report on this particular incident also says the suspect involved in the smuggling had actually escaped authorities. In Nigeria it is illegal to kill donkeys for their body parts but local authorities still deal with this scenario frequently.
