Actress Anne Heche attends the Hollywood China Night Oscar viewing party at The Beverly Hilton Hotel on February 09, 2020 in Beverly Hills, California.

Anne Heche has died at 53 years old, one week after she was critically injured in a car crash, her family confirms, after previously announcing that she would be taken off of life support.

Heche is survived by her two sons, Homer Laffoon, 20, and Atlas Heche Tupper, 13. Her ex- James Tupper, who is father to Atlas, posted a photo of Anne to Instagram today with the caption, “love you forever” with a broken heart emoji.

Per The Guardian, a publicist for the Another World star reported Heche was in a “stable” condition after crashing her car into a house in Los Angeles last Friday (August 5), causing many to believe she would make a recovery. Firefighters said she spoke to them as she was cut free of the wreckage and taken to the hospital.

However, the actress lost consciousness shortly afterward and on Monday (August 8) representatives posted an update, saying Heche was in an “extreme critical condition” and had slipped into a coma. We reported earlier today that her family said in a statement that she was “not expected to survive” and that she was being kept on life support to determine if her organs could be donated.

Heche is best known for playing twins on the soap Another World (from 1987 through 1991). Some of her biggest film roles include I Know What You Did Last Summer, Donnie Brasco and Wag The Dog.

In 2001, Heche published a memoir, Call Me Crazy. In it, she detailed her turbulent upbringing as the youngest of five children in a family that moved 11 times during her childhood. When Heche was 13, her father died of AIDS, which she said he contracted from same-sex partners. Heche also claimed that her father repeatedly raped her as a child, although other members of her family disputed that. Three months after their father died, Heche’s brother, Nathan, died in a car crash, which his sister claimed was suicide. Heche became estranged from her mother soon after.
