Last week, a Falmouth diner fire forced local firefighters into action just before dawn. Luckily, no one was hurt.

The Boston Globe reported that, shortly before 5:00 a.m. on Tuesday, a rooftop fire was called in at Betsy’s Diner at 457 Main St. in Falmouth. The quick-thinking passer-by making the call meant that Falmouth Fire and Rescue were able to make quick work of the blaze. Fire damage was confined to the roof’s heating, ventilation and air conditioning infrastructure. The restaurant suffered from minimal smoke and water damage. It was so minimal, in fact, that they’ve already repoened.

More diners on fire

Sadly, Betsy’s Diner in Falmouth didn’t make the cut for our Greasy and Over Easy bracket. But 64 other diners and breakfast joints throughout the Commonwealth did. And they were all suggested by you. Well, not all of them. Some of them were suggested by the staff here at ROCK 92.9. The point is, we ended up with a strong list of beloved local breakfast restaurants and diners, most of which you’ve either dined at or know about.

And the competition is heating up! On Monday morning, the field of 64 was sliced down 32. That’s how brackets work, after all. And all this week, you’ll be able to vote for your favorite diners to help push them through to the Sweet 16. Or would it be Saucy 16? No, that’s what we used for our BBQ bracket. Greasy 16? Anyway, you’re picking up what we’re putting down. Click here, scroll through the bracket, choose your favorite diners and breakfast places, and tell your friends to do the same. The field of 32 becomes 16 on Wednesday at lunchtime, so time is of the essence. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m craving a corned beef hash omelette from Red’s in Salem. And a well-done order of bacon from the Capitol Diner in Lynn. Damn, I’m hungry.
