Boston’s Great Scott, the beloved Allston venue that shut its doors amid the COVID pandemic in 2020, is set to return in pop up form.

The Great Scott Pop Up is scheduled for Saturday, July 9, with a rain date of Sunday, July 10. But it won’t take place in Allston, or Boston for that matter. The one-day-only event is happening at the Bellforge Arts Center on the grounds of the old Medfield State Hospital. And the best part? It’s free. You just need to RSVP here.

Who’s playing Boston’s Great Scott Pop Up?

In true Great Scott spirit, the Pop Up will feature live, local music, comedy, and a DJ set. The live performances come courtesy of GYMSHORTS, The Benji’s, Thom Moran of Bon Savants, and Eldridge Rodriguez’s Cameron Keiber. “The Gas as Great Scott” will resurrect the Allston club’s popular comedy night. And DJ Michael V of the pill boston, which made its home at Great Scott for years, will wrap up the festivities with a closing set.

Is Great Scott coming back?

Yes, eventually. Boston-based music magazine Vanyaland reported last month that the venue’s original plan to move into the old Allston Depot space was scrapped. Great Scott booking agend Carl Lavin has raised close to $350,000 to put toward reopening the venue in a new space. Lavin is staying tight-lipped about the space he’s eyeing now that the vacant Allston Depot is no longer an option, but he has said that the goal is to keep Great Scott in Allston.

Boston is stronger with a strong, local music scene. So here’s hoping Boston’s Great Scott will return to Allston soon. In the meantime, we’ll see you at the Bellforge Arts Center in Medfield this weekend as Great Scott comes back to life for day, and brings back that Allston Rock City spirit with it.
