Last year, we were rooting for two of the Boston area's best music venues--Great Scott and ONCE Somerville--to survive COVID. Now we turn our attention to a Boston bar.
Last month, Universal Hub reported that Joseph Eliseo, owner of the Silhouette Lounge in Allston, is planning to retire. Eliseo turns 80 next year; who can blame him? Now, with Boston's dive bars being bought up at a breakneck pace over the last few years, fans of the bar would be well within reason to see this as a cause for alarm.
So far, that's not the case. Pending approval from the Boston Licensing Board, ownership will transfer to Frank Starikov and City Realty, who've vowed not to change the Sil. Here's hoping they'll stick to their word: part of what gives the Sil its charm is its divey Allston character. Mess with that and you mess with the spirit of the thing. Not to mention you lose yet another piece of what makes the city unique.
