Wolfgang Van Halen took to social media to comment on David Lee Roth announcing his retirement.

Van Halen shared a photo to Instagram with the caption, “One hell of a run, Dave.” Meanwhile, on Twitter, he wrote, “Thankful and proud to be a small part of your amazing journey.”

As previously reported, Roth announced his retirement in an interview with the Las Vegas Review-Journal that was published on October 1. He said, in part, “I am throwing in the shoes. I’m retiring…I’m not going to explain the statement. The explanation is in a safe. These are my last five shows…I’ve given you all I’ve got to give. It’s been an amazing, great run, no regrets, nothing to say about anybody. I’ll miss you all. Stay frosty.”

DLR’s final shows are set for New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day, Jan. 5 and Jan. 7-8 at the House of Blues at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. Tickets for those shows are on sale now via Ticketmaster.com.

As for why he’s calling it a day now, Roth alluded to the death of bandmate Eddie Van Halen saying, “I am encouraged and compelled to really come to grips with how short time is, and my time is probably even shorter…I thought I might have been the first, frankly … ‘Hey Ed, objects in the rear-view mirror are probably me.’ And my doctors, my handlers, compelled me to really address that every time I go onstage, I endanger that future.”
