You've probably seen the screen shot in your social media feed: Lucky to be alive: 73-year-old Greenfield man mauled by beaver. No, it's not a joke.

MassLive has the subscriber-only article here. And before you start making the obvious beaver jokes, get your head out of the gutter and get serious for a moment. Mark “Pres” Pieraccini got pretty messed up by an actual beaver while swimming in a secluded pond out in Franklin County.

MassLive reports that Pres "had multiple puncture wounds, flesh torn from an arm and a leg, scratches and lacerations over his body and scalp, and a torn tendon on one of his fingers. He also has a fractured knuckle on one hand, mostly likely from punching the beaver as it repeatedly attacked him." Oh, and the beaver probably was rabid.

In short, Pres is lucky to be alive after facing the type of mauling one might expect from a bear. But no, it was a beaver. No jokes here.
