"We’re celebrating the man & his career!" the Red Sox tweeted back on June 4.
"I tried to ask them questions about what they’re doing, but they haven’t really given me any answers," Pedroia said about the ceremont, via Ian Browne at MLB.com. "I don’t really know what to expect. Obviously I haven’t played in about a year and a half with my injuries and stuff. It should be fun. I’m excited just to see Fenway and get back out there and see the fans and everything. It should be a good time."
Pedroia announced his retirement back in February. He had played only nine games between the 2018 and 2019 seasons, and missed the entire 2020 season prior to that point, as he attempted to recover from chronic knee problems.
The second baseman finished his career with 1,805 career hits, eighth in Red Sox franchise history. His 394 career doubles rank sixth among all Red Sox. He also has Rookie of the Year (2007) and American League MVP (2008) honors to his credit.
Now that he's officially stepped away from the game, Pedroia can get a proper send-off for an accomplished career. One that will soon land him in the Red Sox Hall of Fame and on the ballots for Cooperstown.
