Let’s Take a Trip Back to The Rat in 1987
May 9, 1987. A pair of future underground rock legends joined forces to cover another rock legend on stage at Boston’s iconic punk venue.
I’m talking, of course, about The Rat in Kenmore Square. The band on stage in May of ’87 was Sonic Youth, and the guitarist who joined them was J Mascis from Massachusetts’ own Dinosaur Jr. Watch them cover “I Wanna Be Your Dog” by The Stooges (starting right around the 5:00 mark), recently unearthed and shared via the Sonic Youth YouTube page.
