Dave Grohl has directed a new documentary titled What Drives Us that explores the early “van days” of some of the biggest names in music.

What Drives Us, which was produced by the Foo Fighters, features new interviews with Ringo Starr, Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler, AC/DC’s Brian Johnson, Guns N’ Roses’ Slash and Duff McKagan, U2’s The Edge, Metallica’s Lars Ulrich, Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Flea, St. Vincent and many more. A trailer for the documentary can be viewed below.

In a statement on the film, Grohl says, “This film is my love letter to every musician that has ever jumped in an old van with their friends and left it all behind for the simple reward of playing music. What started as a project to pull back the curtain on the DIY logistics of stuffing all of your friends and equipment into a small space for months on end eventually turned into an exploration of ‘why?’ What drives us?’”

What Drives Us will be available exclusively on The Coda Collection in the United States and via Amazon Prime in select global markets on April 30.
