This year saw two major trends: Remote performances and cover songs galore. Evanescence was one of many bands to take part in this trend, and in honor of Amy Lee’s birthday on December 13, it seemed like a perfect time to look back on the band’s rendition of Bananarama’s “Cruel Summer.”

Embedded below, the cover was part of the live stream for Germany’s MagentaMusik 360 back in June. After the performance, Lee said, “I don’t know about you guys, but so many songs have seemed to have taken on a new and deeper meaning during this time, and that’s one of those for me.”

Lee continued, “I hope you enjoyed it. I hope you enjoyed our little performance. We can’t wait to play for you live in the flesh again, but until then, stay safe, be well and take care. We love you.”

Evanescence recently announced their new studio album, The Bitter Truth, will be coming out on March 26, 2021. The album is currently available for pre-save on digital platforms here, while physical editions of the album are available for pre-order at
