Officials in Russia, one of the world’s heaviest drinking countries, are telling residents not to drink for 42 days after they get the COVID-19 vaccine.

According to the New York Post, this bit of bad news comes from the country’s Prime Minister, Tatiana Golikova. Golikova said in order for the Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine to become effective, “Russians will have to refrain from visiting crowded places, wear face masks, use sanitizers, minimize contacts and refrain from drinking alcohol or taking immunosuppressant drugs.”

The head of Rospotrebnadzor, Russia’s consumer safety watchdog, added, “It’s a strain on the body. If we want to stay healthy and have a strong immune response, don’t drink alcohol.”

So far, about 100,000 Russian ciizens have been vaccinated. Golikova points out that by the end of the week, all regions of the country will join in on this campaign.
