Last month's Bandcamp Friday made headlines with a big-name compilation featuring Pearl Jam, David Byrne, and a ton of others.
There's no big-name comp leading this way this month, which is fine. We can focus instead on supporting local artists in our own backyard that are still making music while trying to make ends meet without being able to play out due to the Coronavirus pandemic. If you're not familiar with Bandcamp Fridays, here's a short primer straight from their website:
"We started Bandcamp Fridays back in March to support artists impacted by the pandemic, and in the past few months the music community has come together in a huge way: in just four days, fans put more than $20 million directly into the pockets of artists and labels. Thank you to all the artists and labels who shared their music with us, and the fans who spent their hard-earned coins to support the artists they love."
Basically, Bandcamp waives all fees on Bandcamp Friday, putting more cash into the hands of the people who need it: the artists. You can click here to start discovering music. Oh, and you can check out my Bandcamp page here to see (and hear) what I’ve been listening to.
