Stevie Nicks Says This is Her Only Regret (And It’s Not When She Tried Botox)
Stevie Nicks is a woman of few regrets. In fact, in a new interview, she said she only had one.
In a delightfully candid chat with The Guardian, Nicks said her only regret was her eight-year addiction to the sedative clonazepam, best known by its brand name Klonopin.
“It’s a very subtle drug; you just don’t feel it much, or so you think,” said Nicks. “On the bottle, it says: ‘Take as needed.’ That’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard. So you think: ‘Well, I need it every two hours.’ It’s addiction in a bottle.”
She was first prescribed Klonopin in 1986 to help with sleeping issues following a stint in rehab to treat her cocaine addiction. Nicks refers to those eight-years as “a totally non-time” and that she “just existed.”
Nicks said, “It took away all my wonderful drama, my tempestuousness, my compassion, my empathy – all those things that drove me to my piano. I say to myself now: ‘How did you survive eight years without your wonderful drama?’”
She added, “I always look back and think: what could I have done during that time? Made a Fleetwood Mac album or a solo record. I could have gotten married or had a baby or adopted one. Let me tell you, if anybody ever tries to put you on Klonopin, run screaming out of the room.”
While Nicks clearly regrets her eight-year Klonopin addiction, she seemingly doesn’t regret the one time she tried Botox, even though she clearly has strong feelings about it.
“Let me tell you, Botox only makes you look like you’re in a satanic cult,” said Nicks. “I only had it once and it destroyed my face for four months. I would look in the mirror and try and lift my eyebrow and go: ‘Oh, there you are, Satan’s angry daughter.’ Never again. I watch a lot of news and I see all the lady newscasters looking like Satan’s angry daughters, too.”
So, what did we learn today? Never take Klonopin and don’t get Botox unless you want to look like you’re in a satanic cult. Here’s hoping Nicks’ fountain of knowledge never runs dry!
