Ozzy Osbourne marked the 40th anniversary of his debut solo album, Blizzard of Ozz, yesterday (September 20) by holding a virtual listening party of the expanded edition of the album.

The Prince of Darkness live-tweeted the event and shared a variety of fun facts and anecdotes about his classic solo debut. Here are six of the most interesting facts Ozzy shared.

Ozzy on “I Don’t Know”

“That sound at the beginning of the song is a big brass gong, recorded and then played backwards,” Ozzy tweeted. He then followed up with, “The same brass gong sound is played forwards towards the end of the song.”

He still misses Randy Rhoads

Ozzy tweeted early on into the listening party, “Listening to this, it’s like going back to a good time, but a really horrible time as well because I can’t help but think of Randy’s terrible death. I still miss him every day.”

The Origins of “Goodbye to Romance”

Ozzy shared the song’s title came from a lyric from the Everly Brothers song “Bye Bye Love.” It always acted as a goodbye to his original run with Black Sabbath.

The Origins of “Dee”

Ozzy tweeted “Dee” was a tribute Rhoads wrote for his mother, Delores. Ozzy said he remained in touch with her until she passed away in 2015. He added, “Delores built & opened Musonia School Of Music in North Hollywood, CA. She actually helped with laying the bricks for the walkway leading to the front door of the school. After receiving his first guitar at the age of six-and-a-half, Randy began taking lessons at Musonia.”

Some Clarity on “Suicide Solution”

“Everyone assumed the word solution was used to mean ‘the answer’ but I meant solution as in liquid. Alcohol being that liquid/solution,” wrote Ozzy of the often misinterpreted song. He also added the song was a tribute to AC/DC’s Bon Scott.

A Lesson in British Slang on “No Bone Movies”

A lyric in the track “No Bone Movies” features the word “Bodge,” which Ozzy clarified “is British slang for breasts.” This once again proves British slang is infinitely cooler than American slang.
