Dave Grohl is a creature of habit it seems because after every Foo Fighters tour, he says he wants to quit the band.

Grohl mentioned this tidbit during Brian Johnson Meets Dave Grohl, a special that aired on Sky Arts in the U.K. today (September 17) that saw the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers sit down for an in-depth chat.

As transcribed by Uproxx, Grohl told the AC/DC singer, “I don’t know what else I would do. It’s kind of a running joke with everyone in my life where after I’ve been on the road for a year and a half, I come home from tour and say, ‘I’m never doing that again. That’s it. That’s the last time. Never ever again. I’m going to take two years off.'”

Grohl continued, “And all my friends look at me and say, ‘Bulls—. There’s no way.’ And after a month and a half, I’ve got a guitar in my lap and I’m writing songs and I call the guys and say, ‘Let’s make another record.’ Every time.”

If it weren’t for the coronavirus pandemic, the Foo Fighters would’ve hit the road in honor of the 25th anniversary of their self-titled debut this spring and summer. Of course, the band has been working on new material for a new album, too.

Grohl told Kerrang! back in early March about the follow-up to 2017’s Concrete and Gold, “”…I’m so f-cking proud of it. It’s unlike anything we’ve ever done. I’m f-cking excited for people to hear it and I can’t wait to jump on that f-cking stage to play it. There are choruses on this record that 50-f-cking-thousand people are gonna sing, and it’s gonna bring everyone’s f-cking hearts together in that moment. And that’s what it’s all about.”
