Yesterday (June 2), many classic rock artists observed #BlackoutTuesday.

Organized by former Senior Director of Marketing at Atlantic records Brianna Agyemang and her successor Jamila Thomas, #BlackoutTuesday began through TheShowMustBePaused.com with the mission statement, “Tuesday, June 2nd is meant to intentionally disrupt the work week…It is a day to take a beat for an honest, reflective and productive conversation about what actions we need to collectively take to support the Black community…This is not just a 24-hour initiative. We are and will be in this fight for the long haul.”

Below is a list of artists who took part in #BlackoutTuesday and some of their statements via social media.

Paul McCartney

We’re doing “Black Out Tuesday” in solidarity with the music business and many people all around the world. We give our wholehearted support to seek justice for George Floyd’s family and call for an end to all similar injustices for black people and other minorities globally. #BlackOutTuesday #TheShowMustBePaused.”

Mike Campbell

In these difficult times of social unrest and racial hatred… all of us here in America, are forced to reevaluate our lives and our society… And make some sacrifices. As a musician, I feel this pain deeply. Also, as a musician, playing and writing through these dark days, are things that keep me from going off the deep end. So in honor of the silence movement, I pledge to not play or listen to any music for this day. This may sound like a small thing to most people, but to someone whose life‘s blood is music, this is indeed a small but meaningful sacrifice. May we all use this time to reevaluate our relationships to one another, and heal together…” With Love, Mike Campbell
