April 8, 1975. Aerosmith releases Toys In The Attic, their third album. I'd argue this is the album where Aerosmith truly became Aerosmith.

Some bands come out of the gate with a debut album that tells you exactly what they're about and sets the agenda for what's to come (looking at you, Ramones). Other bands take an album or two to find their voice. Aerosmith is one of those bands. It's no slight against their debut album or Get Your Wings. It's just that Toys In The Attic sounds more...Aerosmith-y.

I wrote a bit about the record in my Summertime Rock series. And even though summer is months away, now is a fine time to go back and take a spin through Toys. I'm guessing you have the time, right? Get started with a live version of "Sweet Emotion" below.
