Official: NEW Boston Marathon Date
The BAA has announced the Boston Marathon will be run Monday September 14 instead of April 20 to help mitigate spread of Coronavirus.
It will be the first time in its 124 year history the race has ever been delayed.
In order to replicate the 3-day weekend feel, Governor Charlie Baker will file special legislation to declare that day a state holiday.
Officials hope to continue the tradition of 30,000 runners and spectators attending the event, which usually generates tens of millions of dollars for Boston tourism and businesses.
One tradition that won’t remain: No leaving the Red Sox game and watching the first runners hit Kenmore Square. The Sox are off and heading on the road to Cincinnati. Hey Red Sox…you COULD move Sunday’s home game to Monday at 11 and then fly after the game. Just sayin’.
