Zakk Wylde Will Re-Record Black Sabbath’s Debut In 24 Hours

Lots of musicians claim that Black Sabbath changed their life, but with Zakk Wylde, it's not hyperbole.

The guitarist got his first professional gig playing in Ozzy Osbourne's band in the late '80s; he's left and rejoined Ozzy over the years, and is onboard on Ozzy's current tour. Playing in Ozzy's band entails mastering the catalog of Osbourne's original band, Black Sabbath. It's clearly a part of the gig that Wylde enjoyed: in 2014, he formed a Sabbath cover band, Zakk Sabbath. Now, that band is paying the ultimate tribute to their inspiration.

Zakk Sabbath have announced plans to cover Sabbath's 1970 self-titled debut; as Black Sabbath recorded the album in a 24 hour period, Zakk Sabbath plans to do the same. "Our aim is to faithfully rerecord the album in the spirit of the original recordings," they said, via their Facebook page. They're going to record the album "Live, in a fully analog studio, direct to two-inch tape, in a single 24 hour period. A film crew will document the process, culminating in a single album and DVD release limited to just 500 copies and delivered to purchasers on February 13, 2020."

They say that the album, to be called Vertigo (after Black Sabbath's original record label), "will never be available commercially or digitally in any other format beyond these initial 500, which will be delivered in a single package containing a vinyl LP, CD, digital download code, and DVD."
