The last we saw of Matt Murdock (in 'The Defenders'), he told Danny Rand (Iron Fist) to protect his city, and presumably was killed by a building collapsing on top of himself and Elektra.
He looks pretty alive to me, and he looks very, very evil.
'Daredevil' returns October 19 only on Netflix.
